Ok, I did more testing. I started a new random game, cheated into 1955 and bought a BR 85 (engine doesn't matter anyway as I found out) + 17 refrigerator wagons, which is my usual train length. As soon as the train starts moving, CPU usage hits 100%, as long as the train window is open. Stopping the train or closing the window reduces the CPU load. Disabling all grf except DBSetXL solved the problem, so I started testing all other grf for dependencies. The problematic grf seems to be newcargow.grf, all other grfs of my conficuration did not have any effect on performance. It also happens if all grf except for DBSetXL and NewCargos are disabled. Next observation: Impact depends on train length. A BR85 and trains of varying length were used, all with refrigerator wagons. The longer the train, the heavier the impact on performance, with each wagon adding about 5-10% CPU usage. Last test: all freight wagons and their impact on performance. Again, random new game, NewCargos enabled, and cheated into 2000. Each train 17 wagons, pulled by BR232. without train windows open: 5-10% CPU usage short open wagon, short closed wagon: 30% CPU usage low open wagon, gondola wagon: 40% stake wagon, tanker: 80% refrigerator: 100% all others: no visible effects on CPU usage That's what I found out, hope it gives any clues about the causes.
