Welcome everyone! This is a mailing list for the filtering subgroup of the ASRG / IRTF. The ASRG for those who may be unfamiliar does research and pre-standards work for the IETF, which in turn uses our work to improve existing and create new standards for the Internet. This specific subgroup is tasked with looking at spam filtering and researching areas where Internet wide features and standards can make it better. The two starting topics we want to look at are: 1. A standard header to be produced by the filters that can be used by the end-user's MUA. Having a standard header may reduce the complexity that the user needs to go through when configuring his MUA to parse filtering results. 2. Ways for filters to share information dynamically including possible standards for formats and protocols. This may encompass dynamic updates like anti-virus programs do, dynamic sharing of filtering data in real-time, collaborative filtering etc. In addition, we would also like to ask all of you to take a moment and think of what other possible ways can standards improve filtering and perhaps help filters at multiple sites work together easier. This list is not restricted by any specific items or agendas, as long as they are related to filtering! We are always looking for new ideas :) This mailing list is closed for subscribers who need approval of the ASRG chairs to get in. However, the archives of this mailing list are publically available at gmane.org. The ASRG also operates a main discussion list which is open and unmoderated at <[email protected]>. It is expected that results of this subgroup will be at some point posted to the main list for discussions.
