Once upon a time I would fit into that category but now that real life 
has hit I guess I'm just a techie trying to do stuff to help.

Infact I have gone one more level than that. I am a final year student 
in Networks & Communications at Sheffield Hallam University (UK). I've 
worked in a UK ISP and at Manchester Computing so I'm not completely 
academic :0)

The main reason I am here is, as someone else said, in relation to my 
final year project.

Before being added to the list I did try to send an initial email using 
the archive interface but that didn't like me, more specifically didn't 
like the lines over 80 characters.

This is the relevant section from that:

For my final year dissertation I am looking into some parts of spam 
filtering. From what I've read so far, this group appears to be 
primarily concerned with (for example the quoted RFC 3028) recipient 
filtering based upon a ruleset.

One of the aspects of my project is to look into various current 
anti-spam solutions (for example DNSBLS) and the way that they 
communicate their data. I haven't looked into this much yet so I'm not 
that sure of whether there are any standards already defined on that or 
if that is within the scope of this list.

To give a bit more detail, the idea behind my project was that several 
blacklist operators have been forced offline due to large DDoS attacks. 
We generally need everyone we can get to fight spam and it would be 
useful to have a system that does not rely solely on the few anti-spam 
organisations that are able to devise and can sponsorship for sufficient 
bandwidth to sink these attacks.

If there is a single standard for the communication of data utilised by 
all blacklist operators and similar services, then a distribution 
network (such as a decentralised peer network) could be set up that 
would benefit all.

If this is not the appropriate list to discuss this then I apologise and 
ask if anyone could point me in the direction of any existing resources 
that they know of.
