  The IETF is considering chartering a RADIUS extensions group.  This
is despite the fact that the successor protocol, DIAMETER, already
exists.  It's despite the fact that everyone agree that RADIUS should
go away as soon as possible.  It's despite the fact that everyone
agrees that the proposed extensions to RADIUS are horible and
disgusting.

  But there's a demand for such broken protocols.  And if someones
going to break them, it should be the IETF.  Everyone else will make a
worse mess than the IETF will.

  I see the arguments for/against spam filtering to be similar.  Most
anti-spam systems are horrible disgusting hacks.  But for many
people, the alternatives are worse.
