If you want or not 'random' people to email you is highly dependent on 
many things :

* for the same person, a personnal or professional email address.

* for different people, their professional activity counts. E.g. a 
postmaster or a politician, or a sales guy shall accept and even WANT 
'random' people emailing them. A "spy" or secret services guy don't.

* for different people, their personality counts, i.e. people have 
different "tolerance thresholds". Some people are tolerant to some 
amount of unwanted messages and others are strongly 'anal retentive'.

IMHO, the parameter "people have different tolerance thresholds" is very 
important when fighting spam at large. Without going deep in the 
subject, that's one of the reasons why it's impossible to have a single 
"TECHNICAL final solution to spam" (emphasizing again the expression 
TECHNICAL final solution).
