It's certainly possible to classify on transport ports and other fields.
We'll add that in a parenthetical note:

... (although classification may take place on other fields, such as source and destination transport port numbers).

Besides the abstract, we mention existing literature in the:

 - Intro, where the next sentence gives BMWG reference examples.
 
 - Section 3.1, with no references nearby

 - Section 4.0, with a list of references provided in the next sentence.

 - Again in Section 4.0, with no refs nearby (when introducing the figures)

We'll re-word the sentences with no refs nearby to avoid repetition.
