In fax, it's impossible to determine if the user has walked to the fax machine and picked up (retrieved) the paper facsimile. In fax, the message is considered "retrievable" when the sender completes transmission of the fax. I don't understand the need to do more with fax-over-SMTP: if the message is "retrievable", you're already duplicating what fax on PSTN does today. That said, timely delivery is all good stuff, but I don't see a need to redefine "delivery". -d
