That's a different system from AMS, actually. That's run by the CS
department. That's running MMDF. The large AMS installation at CMU has
been replaced by Cyrus IMAP and Sendmail.

MMDF has some interesting other quirks besides supporting both + and =
seperator characters. It doesn't support ESMTP, and it actually chokes
on 8-bit characters _anywhere_ in the message.
