SIMP version 4.0.1 has been released.  SIMP is similar to PRIM in its
architectural assumptions.  This version of the Simple Instant
Messaging and Presence System implements a new protocol that has the
same shape as the one specified by draft documents from the IETF
Instant Messaging and Presence Protocol Working Group, however, it
fails to use the specified syntax.  Since SIMP is an open source
project, it could be made to be IMPP compliant without implementing a
system from scratch.  As always, a source distribution of SIMP is
available at
