It's the very idea of "TLD" .invalid to be invalid even without
querying DNS.  Of course you're free to do what you like in
your LAN.  But if you need a TLD and a guarantee, that it will
never clash with one of ICANN's TLDs, then .test, .example, and
.localhost should be good enough for this purpose.  Better stay
away from "TLD" .example unless you use it in an example.
