I intended to fall at the first hurdle :-).

I.e. I was trying to demonstrate that a From header would get added by
somebody en route. More worrying is that my second experiment, with
FROM: <>, got eaten somewhere, which I had not expected.

Yes, I think it was Yahoo, and they took it from the envelope sender (MAIL
FROM:).

Yes, I have inserted my own Date for the next experiment. And at least
Yahoo were not guilty of creating the Message-ID.
