Am I missing something? The IETF has rules for participating, including rules on IPR / derivative works. So what's supposed to happen if I add a trailer to my messages going "HA HA, everyone who reads this owes me $20" ? Or what happens if I add a note saying that the IETF is not permitted to store or publish my messages? Or, what happens if I show up to a meeting, and then stand up to publicly disagree with the "note well?" Why wouldn't the response be "well, you need to leave, then"? Why wouldn't the IETF policy simply over-ride any personal claims? I would suggest that any attempt by an individual to over-ride IETF policy indicates that the person has not agreed to follow IETF process. At which point since they didn't consent to the rules, they should have no right to be posting to the list. If individual messages have weird IPR statements attached to them, the messages can simply be discarded as violating list policy The alternative is to publicly state that we have rules about IPR, but we will do nothing if the rules are violated.
