Name: Johannes Wilm

Email: [email protected]

Media type name: application

Media subtype name: vnd.fiduswriter.book+zip

Required parameters: N/A.

Optional parameters: N/A.

Encoding considerations: binary

Security considerations: Identical to those of application/vnd.fiduswriter+zip.
A book is a ZIP container (https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/zip)
holding a composite book definition (book.json) as a JSON document
(RFC 8259) together with embedded Fidus Writer documents, images
and template assets. The container, entry-name, JSON-parsing and
content-type-confusion considerations from that registration apply
unchanged; in particular, implementations must validate the "mimetype"
and "filetype-version" entries, bound decompression sizes, and treat all
archive content as untrusted.

Interoperability considerations: Same container convention as application/vnd.fiduswriter+zip: a first,
uncompressed "mimetype" entry puts the media type string at byte offset
38. The "filetype-version" entry governs backwards-only compatibility as
described there. Existing files carry the legacy string
"application/fidusbook+zip", which is a deprecated alias; readers should
accept both strings.

Published specification: The Fidus Writer file container format specification (FORMAT.md), at
https://www.fiduswriter.org/spec/FORMAT.md, and the Fidus Writer book
format documentation.

Applications which use this media:

- Fidus Writer book plugin, which creates, exports and imports composite
books from this format; available in the online service and, from
version 5.0, in the desktop application.

- fidusconvert (@fiduswriter/cli), which converts .fidusbook files.

Fragment identifier considerations: N/A.

Restrictions on usage: N/A.

Provisional registration? (standards tree only): No

Additional information:

1. Deprecated alias names for this type: application/fidusbook+zip
2. Magic number(s): - "PK\003\004" (50 4B 03 04) at byte offset 0 (ZIP local file header), then - "application/fidusbook+zip" or "application/vnd.fiduswriter.book+zip" at byte offset 38 (the content of the first, uncompressed "mimetype" archive entry).
3. File extension(s): fidusbook
4. Macintosh file type code: N/A.
5. Object Identifiers: N/A.

General Comments: The media type describe the file format itself and are independent of how
the application is delivered: Fidus Writer 5.0 is distributed both as an
online service and as a desktop application, and `.fidusbook` files are
interchangeable between them.
