It is quite right that the arithmetic in the document should be correct! I therefore support revising any inaccuracies. However, my interpretation of the text agrees with Thomas Narten:

+-PROBE_TIME-+-PROBE_TIME-+-PROBE_TIME-+-PROBE_MAX-+
  probe here-^       here-^   and here-^      done-^

This gives a time from 5-8 seconds (When PROBE_MIN=1s and PROBE_MAX=2s). Not as in the proposed change!
