It took a Public Enquiry and a critical report from a senior judge before the 
BBC would apologise over Andrew Gilligan's "sexing up" (of a pretty sexy 
story in the first place, the fool). Why would you expect them to apologise 
because a bunch of geeks get their knickers in a twist over poor science and 
technology reporting. Poor S&T reporting at the BBC is SOP. How many times 
have you seen the bimbos on TV news giggle that some new simple scientific 
result is "way over their heads" followed immediately by cogent conversation 
with the business correspondent about macro economic trends and the effect of 
the world economy on UK interest rates and the housing market.

As a friend of mine said on Feedback a couple of years ago:

"If the Sports or Business reporters on the BBC acted as clueless as the 
Science reporters, it would be a national scandal."
