Agreed. When you try to orchestrate a letter campaign, it's usually a good 
idea to have some rough ideas, or a sample letter, for people to work from, 
both because it stops people straying too much from the point (unless they 
intend to) and because it encourages people to join in.

In the case in hand, it looks like volume is a prime determinant of efficacy, 
but of course the more personal the better.
