Specifically, Stanford's Center for Internet and Society (CIS) is
bringing a "Complaint for Declaratory Judgment", pro bono on behalf of
Somma, as a mechanism for getting a court to rule explicitly that Somma
is within her rights to produce and distribute her work (which she
probably would have been *even if* the original copyright hadn't expired
- c.f. The Wind Done Gone).

The problem with monopolies is that those to whom they're granted become
dependent on the revenues from them, so have strong motives to fight to
have them perpetuated - just like an addict needing a new hit when the
last dose fades away ...
