[ACPI-sppt] HP Pavilion ze4268

Hello there all,

Please forgive me if this has in actual fact been asked before, but searching
the archives didn't reveal anything. I have a couple of questions regarding acpi
and my laptop:

Recently (3 weeks ago) I bought my ze4268 (Dutch model only from what I can see,
which seems to be a standard ze4200 but vamped up quite a bit [more storage,
RAM, processor speed]). I installed Linux-Mandrake 9.1 on it directly, and have
in actual fact never run the pre-installed Windows which I deleted on purchase.

Almost everything sees to work, as Mandrake uses an acpi-patched kernel as their
default. The only noticiable problem was no USB at all. So since 2 weeks ago, I
have done nothing but compile and recompile kernels (trying loads of different
versions), however the USB problem still remains.

From what I can see (but don't quote me on this as I'm not a die-hard
Linux-Guru), my USB is being assigned "IRQ 9", whereas I read on the internet
that this should be "IRQ 11". Does this make any scence at all? I mean by it
being required to have 11 instead of 9?

Secondly, I spoke yesterday (e-mail actually) with someone who explained the
"IRQ 11" thing to me, and had a few suggestions, but he lastly suggested that I
keep trying the latest acpi patches.
Do these acpi patches attend this IRQ problem at all, or is this a total other
part of the kernel, not related to the acpi patches at all?

Well, before actually writing this e-mail I downloaded the linux-2.4.20.tar.bz2
and patched it with the patch-2.4.21-pre3.bz2. Afterwards I patched the "new"
kernel with acpi-20030523-2.4.21-rc3.diff.gz. All patches were applied with no
errors. However after patching the new 2.4.21-pre3 kernel with the acpi patch, I
cannot get it to compile at all, and it always bombs out during `make modules`.
I feared this was due to the kernel patch at first, however starting again I
_only_ patched the kernel to bring it to .21-pre3 status, and it compiled fine.
It was only ater patching it with the acpi patch did itdie on me. The output

Is this is some way my error, like a bad kernel configuration or something? I
have attached my kernel config to this e-mail too for those interested.


So yes, to repeat the questions once more:
1) Are these acpi patches designed to specify IRQ addresses on such cards like
my USB?
2) With this kernel compiling error is it me, my config, or something broken in
the patch?

and to add a couple:
3) What kernel would you suggest me using on my laptop? So far everything I need
works, except of course for the USB (which is actually the main reason I bought
it: Storage for digital photos when I go on vacation in December)

4) Are there any other suggestions / deas which I could try here to get this all
working?
