[ACPI-sppt] 2.5.72 hangs on "Executing all Device _STA and _INI methods"

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone has seen this.  

I've just installed 2.5.72 with patch ACPI-20030619-2.5.72. 
Compile/Installation went fine (no errors at least) but when I boot into
the new kernel it gets the "Executing all Device _STA and _INI methods"
and hangs.  No panic, no oops.

I've Googled for this but can't find anyhting.

My laptop is a Compaq Presario 2110US.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
