It doesn't work for me. Here are my steps:
# cd /usr/src/linux-2.4.20.SuSE
# iasl -tc Dell-Inspiron_5100_new-A02-custom.asl [ succeded ]
# cp Dell-Inspiron_5100_new-A02-custom.hex drivers/acpi/tables/acpi_dsdt.c
# make menuconfig (enable all of ACPI, remain APM untouched)
# make dep
# make bzImage
# cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz.acpi, etc etc etc.

Now, I have new optimistic new ACPI records in my /var/log/boot.msg, but I 
have also these ones:

<6>ACPI: AC Adapter [ACAD] (on-line)
<4>  psargs-0352: *** Error: Looking up [Z000] in namespace, AE_NOT_FOUND
<4> psparse-1121: *** Error: Method execution failed

<6>ACPI: Processor [CPU0] (supports C1 C2, 8 throttling states)
<6>ACPI: Thermal Zone [THRM] (50 C)

and no battery monitor again, of course. What's wrong?
