Okay, thank you very much! This worked okay. I now have the battery 
status working which proved very useful since the US has different power 
supply and I had to use my batteries here. =;-)

However, one important feature does not work: The CPU speed control. 
When I boot the machine on battery the CPU is recognized as having 600 
Mhz, but it seems to work with 1300 Mhz. The values in /proc/acpi are 
not different from booting connected to power.

/proc/acpi # cat processor/CPU0/performance

     P1:                  1200 MHz, 20000 mW, 100 uS
     P2:                  1000 MHz, 15000 mW, 100 uS

     P4:                  600 MHz, 6000 mW, 100 uS

When I try to change the state by echoing values to proc/acpi nothing 
changes. (Connected or not connected to power) The same applies to 
throttling.

This is puzzling since the page by Michael Arlt that describes his 
experiences with the modified DSDT says that he can influence the CPU.

What can I do about this?
