Try download kernel-2.4.22 from kernel.org which cames with latest acpi
copy /boot/config-2.4.20-20.9 to /usr/src/linux-2.4.22/.config

make xconfig
choose Y ACPI_OPTIONS
save and exit

make dep
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install

Normally in presario 7xx you have disable APIC (not acpi) but I think in
athlon configuration this is already done.
