[ACPI-sppt] running 2.4.20+acpi hangs system (overheating?)

hi,

i am the lucky (?) owner of a gericom M6T laptop with an pentium III and
a fucking phoenix bios.
in order to get my hardware to work i need to install acpi in my kernel.
if i dont use acpi i have irq problems and cant use e.g. the network
card...

ok, ive been trying out matching version of acpi patch with redhat 9
default kernel sources (2.4.20-19.9).
i can compile and everything works fine. but when i run the machine
using this new kernel after a while it hangs.
there is no error message in the logs and no output on the screen the
system just stops reacting.
this only happens when i run the acpi kernel. it doesnt appear when
running default kernel (w/o acpi) or windooze.

as far as i can tell it must be a problem about overheating because the
latop feels very hot when this hangs appear. so i was watching the
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone../temperature and it is getting up to 70°C and
maybe a bit more. this is surely not normal, is it?

i am loading all the acpi modules including fan and thermal (i use
option tzp=20 for this one) as it is described in all the howtos. even
tho the system is still getting very hot and crashes in the end.

i fear it might even burn my cpu :-)

anybody got experiences on that? any help/hints are very welcome.
