Hello,

I've got a new laptop, IBM ThinkPad G40, last week. I've
installed Debian Sid without problems, but ACPI doesn't
work. I've compiled Debian 2.4.22 kernel with
ACPI-2003-09-16 patch, but after boot, there's no /proc/acpi
directory even the ACPI is compiled into kernel. Even with
boot parameters acpi=force and/or pci=noacpi, the directory
/proc/acpi wasn't created.

dmesg | grep ACPI produced these messages:

 BIOS-e820: 000000002f6f0000 - 000000002f6f8000 (ACPI data)
 BIOS-e820: 000000002f6f8000 - 000000002f6fa000 (ACPI NVS)
ACPI: have wakeup address 0xc0001000
ACPI: RSDP (v002 IBM ) @

ACPI: BOOT (v001 IBM TP-1T 0x00001042 LTP 0x00000001) @
0x2f6f7fd8 ACPI: DSDT (v001 IBM TP-1T 0x00001042 MSFT
0x0100000d) @ 0x00000000 ACPI: Subsystem revision 20030916
ACPI: Found ECDT
ACPI: Could not use ECDT
PCI: ACPI tables contain no PCI IRQ routing entries

I wanted to ask, what to do: should i try DSDT hack or i
have to wait until IBM releases error-free BIOS?

Thanks for info
