The 'fan' module is not much use since the DSDT (original and custom) don't behave the way the fan module expects, as far as I can tell. In the ACPI spec, a multi-level fans are actually implemented as multiple fan devices, and it is left to the OS to turn these on and off depending on the thermal zone trip-points, while in the ASUS DSDT, the fan speed is controlled automatically based on the trip-points and temperature. As far as I can tell, that is. I'm not sure how necessary it is to load the 'thermal' module. I suspect shutdown at the critical threshold temperature will only happen if it is loaded. Also, you need it to check the temperature and to change the cooling mode (active/passive, watch the trip-points change). > - the modifications you made to your last DSDT are only those where you > added C-style comments, right? No, in addition to the comments, it now has hard-coded values for the threshold temperatures and fan speeds, so that > - in the future could it be possible reaching an automatic fan control > as on Windows? automatic fan control should actually work. Does here, at least. I'll have a look at the M3N DSDT later. By the way, does display-switching work for you?
