Thanks to Scott Nelson, Will Backman and Martin Maney who responded.
The count refers to "framing errors - these are ill-formed ethernet
packets " which probably indicate problems with a component or two on
etherenet level - NIC, cable, switch, hub, router etc.
The netstat command with the "s" switch can be used for statistics.
