Major problem with PHP/MySQL and name resolution ...

We have moved our primary DNS from one server to another.

We've had no problem with changing the NS records with the registrar, in our zones, resolver/host 
files, etc...  I have _all_ servers pointing at the new primary DNS, as well as the existing secondary 
(which is pulling from the new primary).  I've even reassigned the FQDN DNS of the old primary 
DNS server to the new one.  [ I.e., our primary is "ns2" our secondary is "ns1" -- "ns2" points to the 
new server now, "ns2old" points to the old one -- and I have even updated the NetSol database so 
the DNS servers are known by their new IP mappings (as well as in my A and NS records, etc...). ]

For all intents and purposes, from a DNS standpoint, the old primary DNS server does not exist 
(other than "ns2old" -- which no one refers to).  Everyone is resolving to those two DNS servers for 
all our domains.

Unfortunately, I have one nagging issue left.  For some reason, when I down the old primary DNS 
server's named, we can no longer connect to our MySQL database.  Our primary web front as well 
as MySQL master exist on this same system, and its resolver/host files are setup for the new setup 
-- no issues.  But our PHP scripts get a "connection failed" if the named service on the old, primary 
DNS server goes down.

It's almost like something, somewhere in the PHP or MySQL-only setup, it requires/resolves to a 
_specific_ DNS server, by _IP_ address.  Again, I'm total perplexed.  Nothing else is having issues 
-- not resolution, mail, even all Apache services and other PHP pages.  Only those PHP pages that 
access the MySQL database -- they can't resolve.  Pretty much everything has propogated 
throughout the Internet with the new NS setup, plus the local systems had their resolvers/cache 
flushed right after I did this (and I verified they are using all the new names).

Any suggestions?  Config files I need to look at?  Any leads will be greatly appreciated!  We need to 
take the old DNS server out of production by this weekend.  Thanx.

P.S.  I've looked at the PHPInfo() dump and can't see anything relevant.  Again, I'm lost here.
