SCSI Parity error with Seagate DDS4 Drive

Hello, I'm having a problem with a Tape drive (Seagate 9SP40-000, DDS4) that has been added to a Dell PowerEdge 1600sc, installed on the builtin MPT controller. The drive is recognized, the st module loaded, and mt return no errors when querying the drive status. But when I run `tar cvf /dev/tape /etc` to test it, I get the following error from tar:tar: /dev/tape: Wrote only 0 of 10240 bytes tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now when I check `dmesg` I see: SCSI Error Report =-=-= (0:6:0) SCSI_Status=02h (CHECK CONDITION) Original_CDB[]: 0A 01 00 00 3C 00 - "WRITE(6)" SenseData[12h]: 70 00 0B 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 47 00 00 00 00 00 SenseKey=Bh (ABORTED COMMAND); FRU=00h ASC/ASCQ=47h/00h "" st0: Error with sense data: Current st09:00: sense key Aborted Command Additional sense indicates Scsi parity error I'm running Debian 3.0, with a custom 2.4.20 SMP kernel. I use the same kernel on numerous other 1600sc's without issue, but they use the Dell supplied dds4 tape drive. Is this hardware failure, or just SCSI misconfiguration?
