I asked: >I'm looking for a howto on setting up minicom (RedHat 9) to function as a >serial console for a Sun E450. Kinda the equivalent of 'tip hardwire'. Thanks to: "Kevin P. Inscoe" <[email protected]> Steve Sandau <ssandau-TI6hp8KFk0p8UrSeD/[email protected]> Harry Hoffman <[email protected]> "Piotr J. Misztal" <[email protected]> linux-manager-nNDlf8lshdRWk0Htik3J/[email protected] Bill Voight <bvoight-kTz99GpLsC/[email protected]> "Jason Feilbach" <[email protected]> "Brian D. Beers" <[email protected]> Klaasjan Brand <[email protected]> Paul Kennedy <[email protected]> Concensus is: o null modem cable (REQUIRED) o 9600 8N1 o hardware flow control o ttyS0 (if using first serial port) o edit /etc/default/kbd on Sun to disable break I had some trouble with terminal emulation in running through a Solaris install. Neither minicom's ANSI or VT102 worked properly and I had to work from memory on some of the screens since the display was scrambled. Of additional interest, Kevin has a web page describing use of the 'cu' utility instead of minicom.
