unregister_netdevice wlan error

I have a RH9 (2.4.20-20.9) laptop that's used both at home and work. At home, I use the linux-wlan drivers (prism2_cs.o) with my D-Link prism2 pcmcia card (wlan0), tunnelling the session over an isakmpd IPSec connection (FreeS/WAN 2.04). Everything works fine... About one kernel upgrade ago, I started noticing errors to the console at shutdown that would stop the laptop from being able to poweroff cleanly. This "unregister_netdevice" error appears to only occur when IPSec is installed, so I wonder if something isn't shutting down cleanly with ipsec/klips before the cardmgr tries to release (I'm grasping at straws here). As it is, I have to load the ipsec service via rc.local so as to avoid pcmcia startup delays. Google has a number of hits on that error, but nothing that makes any sense. Anyone out there run into this? Any ideas?
