Summary: Kernel panic prevents install
Product: Ark Linux
Version: 1.0 alpha9
Platform: i586 (PC, Intel)
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: High
Affects: Overall Usability
Component: Installer
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
QAContact: [email protected]
Description of Problem: The scenario looked differnt to me from the other
similar bugs in the system, so I'm posting this...
Booting from arklinux install cd (using simple boot manager), Text comes up,
then boot prompt, then there is a quick burst of text that ends with "Kernel
panic: Attempted to kill init!" And system stops.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.0 Alpha 9.1
How Reproducible: Stick CD in drive, boot up to Simple Boot Manager prompt,
select CD-ROM, wait a few seconds, notice kernel panic. My machine is a Compaq
Presario 4700, 200 mhz, 72 mb ram (more soon!), hda=6.4 gb ide (many fat32
partitions), hdb=2.5 gb ide (unpartitioned). Can provide more details if needed.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot
2. select cd-rom from Simple Boot Manager
Actual Results: Kernel panic. Here is most of the text immediately before that
message:
EIP is at acpi_pci_link_calc_penalties [kernel] 0x7a (2.4.23-0.pre4.1ark)
Process swapper xxxxxxxxxx
Stack: xxxxxxxxxx

The x's are numbers I didn't write down.
Expected Results: I was REALLY looking forward to see arklinux...
