Do I have to download it to find out what software is included or is there a 
list somewhere?

Without having a look at it all I can say right now is that having one CD with 
a base KDE system with OpenOffice, KMail and Konqueror and a few simple games 
should be good for most people, the rest can be installed with Apt.
