Ok, I got Xorg working by reusing the old xorg.conf file, but I've got new problems now. besides xrescue not wanting to run any more I got an error message while stuck without X which pertains to the persistent USB problems I've had with Ark. Currently my USB mouse and keyboard do not work from the point Ark boots until I unplug my mouse and keyboard and plug them back in. I have gotten the following error messages on my keyboard and mouse as well as on USB drives and on my printer. All of them looked more or less like this: hfc_usb: probe of 3-2:1.1 failed with error -5 This is all I can tell you about my motherboard and USB: LSPCI output for USB: 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #1 (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #2 (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI #3 (rev 02) 00:1d.3 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB UHCI Controller #4 (rev 02) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 02) I have an ASUS P4P8X motherboard.
