Netgear router problem

 I've just installed Ark Linux on its own box. It's a wonderful distro!  
I can connect with the Internet directly through Verizon-supplied dsl modem.   
However, when I cable Ark Linux from my Linux nic to my Netgear MR814 router  
with my WIN XP box, Ark Linux won't connect.  I've gone over the Ark Internet  
settings many times.  Any thoughts?
