I'm just curious here. You have had this problem for more then a month,
wouldn't have been easier just to reinstall alpha 12.1 or alpha 12.2. I
understand you might have data that you don't want to lose. But couldn't
you use something like knoppix to grab all your data and put it on an
external drive or burn it to a disk.

My bet is though as far as rpm goes, you don't have root privliages, so
instead of saying sorry you need root privlagies to install or uninstall
packages it segfaults. Thats one of the quirks of the rpm package that was
in dockyard and just never got patched up to tell you otherwise. If you
don't have root access you can't use rpm. you next closest option would be
to use rpm2cpio <package>.rpm |cpio <options>. If you can't get the latest
kernel to work then just get one of the older ones that does work and go
from there.

If you were trying to migrate from Dockyard to Dockyard-devel and it failed
your pretty screwed as far as recovering the system its easier and quicker
to just start over with a devel cd. There were alot of changes and alot of
people who had failed upgrades to devel even from devel. My only suggestion
would be make sure you back up your data in the future. Especially if you
are transitioning from stable to devel on an alpha state release.

Bero might have some further suggestions, but the only thing I can think of
I already suggested to you which was to get a kernel that works and see
what you can do. Maybe try finding an out of sync mirror, or if you are
lucky and you havn't cleared your apt cache, look there. If you havn't
cleared your apt cache since the upgrade you might well find the 2.6.9
kernel in there thats working here. <- /var/cache/apt/archives

Thats about all I've got off the top of my head.
