killing X

How do I stop X and log in as root? I have this Nvidia driver that won't 
allow me to install unless I have X stopped, and am loged in as the root.
Any help would be apreciated. 

BTW, Ark Linux is probably the best Distro I've used to date, in terms of 
user friendliness anyway. Thank You.
