Hi all,
today, I ran into the following:
I installed Aurora 1.0 on my SparcStation LX (128MB, 2.1GB drive, 1MB
VSIMM).
I created a small /boot partition, a swap partition and a large /
partition. The installation went smoothly, however, the machine ended up
not being bootable. I should have known better - this setup has failed
before (there was some discussion on this list - at the time, the
installer failed to mount /boot when creating the boot setup, hence,
/boot stayed empty, depriving SILO of its config)... The error message
was
Read error on block 360452 (tried 4096, got -1)
Cannot find /etc/silo.conf
[...]
(makes me wonder: *Can* the /boot setup work at all like it does on
x86?!)
Anyway, trying to "rescue" the setup, I tried an "Update":
booted into "text" mode, chose "English", then "sunkeymap" (the LX
has a Type 4 keyboard), then "Upgrade ...".
The installer finds / on /dev/sda4 as being the existing installation,
then asks me, whether I want to adjust the package list. I answer
"No". I'm then presented with a screen for the boot loader upgrade,
informing me, that no boot loader has been detected (surprise...). I
choose to "Create new boot loader configuration". Result: Crash.
Saving the crash dump to floppy doesn't work, either (floppy gets
deleted, but no new file gets written), hence I'll try manually:

By the way: I can't remember being asked to create a boot disk, even
though the LX has a floppy drive... Did I sleep through that part or
is there something else going on?
