Hm... Seeing that the AXi does not have any IDE, I wonder what influence
this could have anyway - or could it affect anything else besides IDE?

Will do - that machine is partially intended for experimenting anyway.
I'll also use it as scanner server, so there should be some "data
movement" on it.
