On a Compaq Presario 1200 with an AMD Athlon CPU, the current STABLE
disc won't boot: it hangs inside of root.bin's init script.

Unpacking modules.
Using usb-uhci.o
usb-uhci.c: $Revision ...
...
usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1

and that's the last output -- then it just stops there.
