I'm privately of the opinion that the whole GAR tree should be split
up into a "GAR" package containing just the machinery of the build
system, and various separately downloadable subsets of the actual
package hierarchy, possibly quite coarse at first.  I am interested in
making as much software as possible available as GAR packages, but to
fold new material in the existing monolithic GAR tree runs
counterpoint to the exercise of granularization.  Hold on to those
packages for now and we'll see how this experiment pans out.

making my updates now.
