help building from bbc-2.1-with-sources.tar.gz

On my RH-8.0 system I grabbed the tarball with sources, unpacked it, cd'd to
meta/lnx-bbc and typed make build.

next day I looked at the what happened. It looks like it was building gcc
2.95.3 (died in /devel/gcc/work/build.d/i386-pc-linux-gnu/gcc compiling
libgcc2.c with name=_muldi3)

seems it can't find stdlib.h and unistd.h

any suggestions on what I did wrong?
