On that note, I'd like to mention that Knoppix and
it's dirivatives aren't as great as most people think
either...

I have to pass parameters to lnx-bbc and other live cd
distributions just to keep the keyboard from locking
up (nomce is the parameter) which is no big deal...
however, when I tried Knoppix and it's offspring, that
flag wasn't enough. It would boot, but the networking
wouldn't work. Not only would it NOT work, it
wouldn't work even after modprobing the correct driver
manually and setting up networking manually etc... it
just flat wouldn't work. They had a big long thread
about how MS Windows supposedly changed the EEPROM
settings on certain network cards and blamed the
problem on that intead of considering that maybe
Knoppix was just flat broken in hardware detection for
some cards... Someone on those threads finally
discovered that a "noscsi" flag has to be passed in
order for the networking to start up correctly (why
this option I don't know... it makes no sense, but
that's the way it works.)

I'm writing some reviews on all of the live cd
distributions I've tried for a site I visit a lot. If
anyone is interested, I'll post a link to the reviews
when they are done. Lnx-BBC, SLAX (and Slackware
Live, it's predecessor), Knoppix, DamnSmall, Gnoppix,
Feather, Keeper, Puppy, SysRecCD, and MandrakeMove are
some of the ones I'll be reviewing... I'm starting
with SLAX and Slackware Live, but Lnx-BBC will likely
be the next review.
