I have not kept up with openSSI recently. I would have to check it  
out to see if it does stuff like handling time stamps properly, and  
handling links properly. I am sure you got the cache consistency  
worked out, which implies also a properly working shared memory.

thinking about it, there may be a school of thought saying that  
openSSI (which already has some openMosix code) and openMosix should  
merge and get the best of each other in terms of technology and  
market share.

All the hype about clusters that was raging in 2002 and 2003 has  
largely come down recently and I doubt there is enough space for two  
competing open source SSI implementations.

We at openMosix have the advantage of wide spread use, big installed  
base, and of it being a platform upon which a big number of other  
softwares are based. openSSI has the advantage that its core  
developers are paid to do openSSI (God bless big corporations) and  
apparently some of the important components for a modern SSI already  
implemented or are on the way to be.

I do not believe that SSI has a big enough following nowadays to be  
included in the Linux kernel source, nor do I think it is relevant  
for our mission. The competition between openMosix and openSSI is  
therefore purely intellectual (even though stimulating). Users out  
there have understood what the limitations of SSI are, and there is  
an undeniable trend towards smaller, shorter-lived applications along  
with clustering technology built into the apps by design.

Five years from now there will be space for just one SSI (if at all),  
and it might be an idea to be there together.
