Compile issue with 2.6.17.13

I am having a show stopper of a compile problem. I am using the latest
git unspruced on to a 2.6.17.13 source tree. Here is the error:

LD      init/built-in.o
LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
 hpc/built-in.o(.text+0xb88): In function `comm_accept':
: undefined reference to `sock_alloc'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

 Should I go up or done a stable version or is there an unapplied
patch I should try?
