trouble beta testing oM-2..6.15---failure booting

Hi,
I'm testing the 2.6.15 beta release, I finally had a few days free to 
try it.
I compiled a new kernel from kernel.org, (2.6.15.7).  It booted fine, 
with the
exception of a message "ibm_acpi: ec object not found" which may 
incapacitate my cd/dvd
but I ignored this for now.  I think this has something to do with my 
laptop and hal.
(I'm doing this all on a laptop since my one and only desktop machine 
is  my router for
the time being, so I don't want to keep rebooting the thing)

In any case, the new kernel seems to start X OK and I seem to have full 
KDE functionality.

The problems start when I apply the 
openmosix-kernel-2.6.15-openmosixbeta.i386.rpm
patch.  It creates the new kernel OK, and the grub.conf set-up looks 
innocuous and fine to me.
But when I try to boot this patched kernel I get this fatal error:
(as well as the aforementioned ibm_acpi error)

OK, so to me that looks like something easily fixed, but I'm not sure 
what exactly to do.  It's the sort of thing I thought someone reading 
this list would be able to diagnose at a glance (I hope).

I'm gonna try a few other things when I configure the kernel, but I'm 
really fumbling in the dark most of the time.  So any help or hints 
would be appreciated...then I can get back to actually testing openmosix!

BTW: For a laugh I tried patching the original FC5 kernel that came with 
my distro, and I get a similar error.  Now I'm not laughing ;-)

PS. Has anyone yet tried downgrading a Fedora Core>=3 distro from 2.6 to 
2.4 to run openmosix?
I'd be interested to read any experiences since the Quantian distro was 
unstable on my laptop
which means that currently I'm without a working cluster!  (though I 
think that was due simply
to a bad xorg.conf setting, so if I can't get oM-2.6.15 up and running 
I'll have to try Quantian
again. But YUM treats me better than APT, so I really would like a 
Fedora-based system if
possible.)
