I use gentoo, so I don't have experience with what will happen to your packages when you boot a 2.6.17open mosix kernel (which is the current SVN kernel version) As I said, I use gentoo, but all I do to is follow the instructions for setupenv, run my make menuconfig - am very careful to build all the components I need into the kernel rather than loadable modules (such as ext3, lvm, graphics, etc.) and you will probably want to build openmosix for debug (you will need it as there are still bugs - plus I use omuscd which is still beta and requires debug turned on). In short, don't use CVS - checkout the source using subversion, also install and familiarize yourself with quilt in the event that you need to fix a bug and submit it back for inclusion into the source tree. Also, best of luck :) I am really trying to get 2.6 running for genetic programming over here and I will be doing what I can to help the project. Some of the things we need a 2.4 kernel is not an option - so I have to power through and get 2.6 working.
