Hi,

to my knowledge this usually occurs when the driver for the filesystem was
not compiled into the kernel, but as module (or forgotten).
two options:
a) compile the driver for the file system into the kernel - this means you
   have to recompile it
b) run the script mkinitrd to create an initrd for your om-kernel and add
   it in the grub menu.lst - it should contain the modules required to
   boot the system
