 Do you have an initrd line somewhere in your GRUB menu.lst that applies
globally?  Since there's no initrd line in the section for your oM kernel
(which is good, as long as you compile in support for hard drive controller
(IDE, SCSI, and/or SATA), and the filesystem (ext3, JFS, reiserfs, etc.)
But if you give the kernel an initrd, it will try to mount it as the root
filesystem first, which fails if the kernel doesn't support the filesystem.

 You just don't tell grub anything about any initrd (for that subsection).
