If your distribution uses a kernel 2.6.xx (e.g. SUSE 10) you can't use
the openmosix patch for 2.4.xx kernel.
You have to: (i) install the 2.4.xx kernel and (ii) apply the openmosix
patch for 2.4.xx kernel installed.
I know very well the SUSE distribution, and SUSE doesn't support anymore
the 2.4.xx kernels.
This means that you can't install on your machine a 2.4.xx kernel and
patch it with openmosix, because many
other programs and drivers depends on kernel version.
In general, if you have a 2.6.xx distribution already installed is very
difficult downgrade the kernel to 2.4.xx version.
Instead, there are other distributions (like Slackware, Debian, etc)
that support the 2.4.xx kernel.
But, you have to decide the kernel version at installation time, because
after installation is hard to downgrade from 2.6.xx to 2.4.xx !!!
However, all distributions uses the lastest 2.4.xx kernel (e.g. 2.4.30 /
31 / 32 ... ) and the official patch is for 2.4.26 !!
So, you can't patch a 2.4.xx kernel with a 2.4.yy patch !! The versions
have to be exactly the same.
But, there are unofficial patchs. You can install one of them at your
own risk (but many people use them without problems).

 - the patch for 2.4.30 distributed with Gentoo
 - the 2.4.27 patch available at
http://openmosix.snarc.org/files/releases/2.4/
 - another 2.4.30 with migshm at http://dev.gentoo.org/~voxus/om/
 - and my patch for 2.4.31 (if you want request to me... I'll send it
you by e-mail)
