Hello,

  See the following for the 2.4.26-1 openMosix RPM version, installed
into RedHat Fedora Core 1 - if you've tried the oM RPM version then
this should be no different;
  http://midnightcode.org/papers/How%20To%20-%20Instant%20openMosix.pdf

  If you're just looking for a good kernel to steal, then you could try either
of the last couple of CHAOS versions;

  CHAOS-1.6 (Kernel 2.4.27 - I think);
     http://www.purehacking.com/chaos/iso/chaos-1.6.iso
     http://www.purehacking.com/chaos/iso/chaos-1.6.iso.md5

  CHAOS-1.5 (Kernel 2.4.26 - I think);
     http://midnightcode.org/projects/chaos/code/chaos-1.5.iso
     http://midnightcode.org/projects/chaos/code/chaos-1.5.iso.md5

.. if you mount that ISO image under a loop-back device you can
rip the kernel off the file system. That kernel should support a wide
range of controllers, as CHAOS needed to be sure to gain access
to the CDROM drive ...

  I've not tested SATA in any of these (three) environments.

  Alternatively, try some of the other live distro's for ready-to-run
binary kernels .. Qantian/ClusterKnoppix would be a good place to
start.
